About Me
Mostly self-taught over the years, I recently completed a Certificate in Higher Education in Painting with the University of the Creative Arts, taking painting, drawing and printmaking as my core subjects. Other sources of inspiration and learning included the Strathclyde University Evening Programme, the Moray Arts Centre in Findhorn and the Studio at the House for an Art Lover in Glasgow.
Membership of the Round About Art Sketching Group in Glasgow has brought wonderful support and inspiration, especially during the recent lockdown where the company of friends and colleagues was invaluable.
This year I have embraced the challenges of landscape painting in Scotland, often from sketches done on the many walks outdoors and sometimes from memory where a visit was not possible.
I work in a range of media: soft pastel and charcoal, and acrylic and watercolour paint. More recently, collage and mixed media feature in my work, with the occasional guest appearance from printmaking!
Favourite artists include James Alexander Wood, Joan Eardley and Soraya French. Cas Holmes' beautiful textile landscapes are an inspiration in mixed media and the wonderful quirky prints of Mark Hearld. I love the simplicity of outline achieved in printmaking and have sought develop this in works such as " Beating Heart of Scotland and Glasgow, sunset over the Clyde.
I am a current member of the Society of Scottish Artists (SSA).
